Homemade Deodorant Recipe using Coconut Oil

What would be the most embarrassing moment for many women? … unpleasant body odor and wet armpits. For most of us, deodorant is on the top of our shopping list. It is like brushing your teeth, you just don’t forget to do it and even if you do, there is a gum. However, when it comes to deodorant, it is hard to find a substitution on the run. That is why us women usually carry a deodorant stick in our purse.

Unfortunately, all conventional deodorants are full of dangerous chemicals that quickly penetrate the skin causing skin irritation and in the worst case scenario – cancer.  These products contain aluminum which help block your sweat glands, preventing you from sweating. But aluminum is a very toxic ingredient which not only removes calcium from your body but also has a dangerous affect on the endocrine and lymphatic systems, thus causing breast cancer.

Additionally, these antiperspirants are powerful astringents that prevent the toxins in your body from coming out in sweat. This is why we must avoid these conventional products. As for myself, I’ve tried many brands of all natural store bought deodorants. Unfortunately, none of them did a great job protecting me from the odor caused by apocrine sweat combined with the bacteria. I have found that homemade deodorants do a great job at preventing odor.

How to make your own natural deodorant that works

Ingredients:

1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
5-6 Tbsp Coconut oil
10 drop of any essential oil (where to buy)

Combine baking soda, coconut oil, and arrowroot powder and using the spoon, work the mixture until it gets a firm texture. Mix in essential oils. Transfer to a container (with lid) and store in the fridge. The texture of it should be about the same as store bought. This recipe portion should last you for couple of months.

  1. Cool! Will give this a shot!

Currently using Lavilin and it’s been great. Do you ever write review on all-natural brands in the market? I’m curious to hear what you’d think of Lavilin.

  2. I’ve been using something similar for about 6 months but in case anyone has problems with the baking soda (my husband is extremely sensitive) you can also use Zinc oxide as a deodorant. You just have to add some beeswax to incorporate it or it will settle out. I’ve started selling All natural body care products and a customer told me about it. I researched and tested it out and it is amazing! You don’t even have to use it everyday as it will last several days with our without showering in between.
